School Council

Year Councils

At Westhoughton High, each Year Council is responsible for organising and promoting student led charity work. Whether it be Children in Need, Comic Relief, Kindness Week or a cause close to the hearts of a particular year group, you can guarantee that Year Council will be at the heart of it.

There are five Year Councils in total, one for each year group and they meet once every half term with their Student Support Leader. Each Year Council chooses their own Chair Person and Secretary to lead and record meetings and they also elect 2 of their number to have a seat on the School Council.

School Council

The School Council consists of 10 students made up of 2 Year Council reps from each year group. They meet once every half term, after Year Council, with Mrs Edgar and Mr Webster. The School Council is responsible for improving the school community and its role within the wider Westhoughton community. It does this by representing the views of the student body and working closely with decision makers.

So whether it is meeting with Mellors to decide on new menus for the canteen, updating the anti-bullying policy with Mrs Edgar, raising student concerns identified through their student voice research or organising Random Acts of Kindness in Market Street, the School Council will be working hard for you.

The Student Council also recognises the special contributions that some students make to the school or wider community and present Students’ Student Awards to these individuals at least twice a year.
