Engineer for a Day

Six Year 8 Female students were selected to attend the Engineer for a Day event at University of Bolton organised by MBDA. MBDA is a world leader in missile systems and set the event up to create a platform for young girls to enter the Engineering industry.

Eight different schools from the local Bolton area took part in the 'Squashed Tomato Challenge', where they had to plan, design and make a system that transported tomatoes from a height safely. They were coached and had female engineer mentors from MBDA to guide them and challenge them to use the Design Cycle.

The Westhoughton High School team were successful in the days challenge and won the award for the most tomatoes transported safely in 1 minute.

Well done to all the girls involved, Phoebe Adamson, Jade Hadi, Chloe Johnson, Lauren Conroy-Clark, Chloe Hurst and Emily Hurst.
